dbarrow’s Review of Smokin Js

Main Fare:

  • Ribs –  very tender, excellent smoke ring and almost falls off the bone
  • Brisket –  good smoke ring with lots of fat which is the way I like it. Juicy meat with good accordion style separation but there is a slight creosote flavor
  • Sausage – store bought with heavy maple flavor and lots of fat

Other Fare:

Other Fare:

  • Sauce – heavily doctored with red and green pepper and garlic, well done.
  • Grilled rib flap – interesting concept. He cuts this off the main rib and just grills it instead of smoking. Good idea!

No other sides at the time we showed up but on the weekends momma makes fresh cole slaw, potato salad and beans.

Atmosphere:

  • This is a wildman special. Offset smoker with flames painted on it sits out front. Tin roof structure recently built since his original restaurant burned down within the last year. Nice mysting system plus a large commercial fan helps keep things cool in the 100+ degree heat. This is a joint and the owner and wife are a couple of characters – good people!
